Manabi, Ecuador, 30 June 2016 (PAHO/WHO) - Staff from the ministries of health, of economic and social inclusion, and of education, as well as members of the armed forces, police, firefighters and volunteers from civil society organizations and universities participated in the workshops on psychological first aid that took place in Portoviejo, Pedernales, Bahía de Caráquez, Chone and Manta.
Under the slogan 'Caring for those who care,' the Mental Health Commission of the Ministry of Public Health, with the support of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) organized activities with frontline responders that were providing care to victims of the earthquake in Manabi.
Dr. Hugo Cohen, PAHO/WHO mental health expert, offered tools for public officials and volunteers to provide a better response to the affected population.
