Washington, DC, 5 November 2024 (PAHO)- The Comprehensive Immunization Program (CIM) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) has created four new free online courses designed to train health professionals in key areas related to national immunization programs.
The courses are now available on the PAHO Virtual Campus and aim to strengthen the competencies of primary care health professionals, new entrants to the workforce, immunization program managers, and health science students.
All modules are translated into PAHO’s four official languages: Spanish, Portuguese, English, and French.
The courses are:
- Basic Concepts in Immunization: This course aims to provide participants with essential knowledge about vaccines and immunization operations, fostering patient trust and promoting vaccination within communities.
- Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPDs): Participants will receive updated information on 15 VPDs, including transmission modes, case definitions, diagnostic methods, and vaccination schedules recommended by PAHO.
- Surveillance and Information Systems: This course is designed for national immunization program staff to train them in the surveillance operations necessary for identifying, reporting, and responding to outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Expanded Program Immunization Management: Participants will learn about the effective management of a national program, including key operations and components.
