It was organized by the Ministry of Health of Nicaragua in observance of World Mental Health Day. Various topics were discussed during the Conference and it featured the participation of leading specialists.
Dr. Francisco Flores, from Mexico, addressed how to approach depression;PAHO/WHO Mental Health Advisor for Central America and the Latin Caribbean, Carmen Martínez Viciana, presented the role of mental health in emergency situations and natural disasters;Kathy Willy, a psychologist from the Nicaraguan Region of Bluefields, spoke about community mental health;Dr. Carmen Beltrán Rodríguez, from Mexico, addressed behavioral disorders and sexual abuse in children and adolescents;and Dr. Víctor Josafat Trejo Terreros, also from Mexico, presented liaison psychiatry.
Psychiatrists, psychologists and other health workers from different health regions in the country contributed their knowledge and concerns in a very enriching way to advance in the improvement of mental health services in Nicaragua.
