The Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week 2019 will be a key international summit to drive climate action forward across the region. LACCW will be an umbrella for a series of climate-related events focused on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) implementation – challenges and opportunities, the Sustainable Development Goals, and Global Climate Action.
To boost ambition and accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the results of the LACCW will feed into the outcome of the Climate Action Summit, organized by the UN Secretary-General, on 23 September in New York.
Leaders, policymakers, regional and global stakeholders will engage in in-depth discussions on the four of the nine tracks of the Climate Action Summit: energy transition; industry transition; infrastructure, cities and local governments; and nature-based solutions.
LACCW 2019 will include a high-level segment (August 22, 2019), hosted by the government of Brazil, to address matters in the international agenda of climate action, which are of political importance to Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), jointly with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is co-organizing the side event “Overview of the Effects of Climate Change on Health: Focus on the LAC region”, to be held on August 21, 2019. This workshop aims to discuss the integration of health in the climate change agenda and present successful experiences and opportunities to develop climate resilient health systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.
