The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is looking to expand its roster of external translators in its four official languages, English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish, with an emphasis on scientific and technical translation.
Requirements
- University degree in translation, public health, medicine or a related field
- At least five years’ experience as a full-time professional translator
- Extensive translation experience in public health, international development, medicine, or another relevant field
- Experience working with international organizations preferred
- Native speaker of the target language. (Candidates must be comfortable working with American English, Brazilian Portuguese, and Latin American Spanish.) The ability to translate from more than one source language would be an asset but is not required.
- Willingness to work with computer-assisted translation tools, including translation memories and machine translation output (post-editing on an online platform)
- Willingness to learn and apply PAHO style, terminology, and practices, under the guidance of in-house staff.
Translators should send a cover letter and CV in their native language to translation.services@paho.org by 10 February 2022. After an initial screening process, candidates will be offered a written test in February/March 2022 (only eligible candidates will be contacted). All candidates who pass the translation exam will be added to the PAHO roster of freelance translators.
