The series of Legal Technical Notes on Human Rights and Health is part of an initiative of the Office of the Legal Counsel of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), with the objective of promoting the dissemination of international human rights instruments and standards related to health and contributing to the adoption of measures to advance the protection of the right to the highest attainable standard of health in the Region of the Americas.
Resolution 50.R8 on Health and Human Rights adopted by the PAHO Directing Council (CD50. R8), calls upon PAHO Member States to support PAHO's technical cooperation in the formulation, revision and, if necessary, reformulation of national health plans and legislation, incorporating applicable international human rights instruments, especially provisions relating to the protection of groups in situations of vulnerability, and to adopt measures to disseminate international human rights instruments.
The Human Rights and Health Series consists of 8 Technical Notes in which the main international human rights instruments and standards and the systems for the protection of these rights of the United Nations and the Inter-American Human Rights System are described, as well as different measures to make them effective, with special emphasis on the right to the highest possible standard of health of the most vulnerable population groups. in the countries of the Americas.
