La Antigua, Guatemala, July 9, 2024
From July 9 to 12, 2024, two workshops organized by Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) are being held in La Antigua, Guatemala, focused on training experts from the National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) of reference for medicines in Latin America, in the tools and mechanisms for evaluating regulatory systems worldwide. The event brings together advisors from the NRAs of Argentina (ANMAT), Colombia (INVIMA), Mexico (COFEPRIS), Chile (ISP), Brazil (ANVISA) and Cuba (CECMED).
The aim of the workshops is to improve the consistency and quality of assessments through the use of the WHO Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT). The participants, who have extensive experience in regulation, will be trained in the use of this methodology, in addition to the development of research, communication and teamwork skills.
Similarly, performance indicators to assess the capacities of regulatory systems in the context of the transition to WHO-Listed Authorities (WLAs) will be discussed.
PAHO and WHO, through their technical teams, have historically supported the strengthening of regulatory systems inside and outside the region, with the ultimate goal of ensuring access to safe, effective, and quality medical products, moving forward the region to towards the Univesal Health Coverage.
