Official handover of the two generators with RGD Staff at the Ellen Clinic in Commewijne, Dr. Mohamed Saharie, Nurse Chrichlow, and Mr Soegriem Kisoensingh along with Catherine Griffith from the US Embassy Suriname, and Alejandro Caballero from PAHO Suriname.
Suriname, December 30, 2022 (PAHO) – The PAHO/WHO office in Suriname, with funding support from the U.S Government, donated two generators to the Regional Health Services (RGD) in support of PAHO’s continued response to COVID-19 and specifically to strengthen the cold chain for vaccines.
The official handover of the donation was formally done by PAHO/WHO Administrator, Mr Alejandro Caballero and the Political Economic Chief of the Embassy of the United States of America in Suriname Mrs. Catherine Griffith to the RGD Team, consisting of Dr. Mohamed Saharie, Nurse Chrichlow, and Facility Manager Soegriem Kisoensingh at their clinic in Ellen, Commewijne.
The United States is committed to working with its global partners to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. To that end, we continue to provide vaccinations to countries around the world as well as equipment such as these generators that ensure the cold chain is uninterrupted. - Mrs. Catherine Griffith
I sincerely want to thank the PAHO and the US Embassy Suriname for this generous donation. We often deal with electricity outages, almost on a monthly basis, forcing us to work in the dark. Some of our rooms do not have windows making it extra difficult to work without electricity during the day. In addition, when we do not have electricity, we have to transport the vaccines to another location to ensure they stay usable. - RGD Dr. Mohamed Saharie.
For this donation one generator was installed at the RGD Ellen Clinic in Commewijne, Suriname and another one was installed at the RGD Clinic in Groningen, Suriname. The RGD Facility Manager Mr Kisoensingh expressed his gratitude and graciously appreciates the long-standing relationship between the PAHO, the US Embassy and the RGD. Nurse Chrichlow at the Ellen clinic mentioned that this generous donation will help deal with the constant electricity outages and help improve the RGDs vaccination service at the clinic.
PAHO Suriname is pleased to continue its collaboration with the US government in providing ongoing technical cooperation to the Ministry of Health in its response to COVID-19 and the routine immunization program.
