Bridgetown, Barbados, 23 March 2021 (PAHO) - The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered social stigma and discriminatory behavior against persons who have contracted the COVID-19 virus, those who have been in contact with such persons, as well as any person who has been perceived to have come in contact with the virus.
This negative association between a person or group of people and COVID-19, has resulted in persons being stereotyped, discriminated against, and treated separately because of a perceived link with a disease. Such treatment can negatively affect those with the disease, as well as their caregivers, family, friends and communities.
As part of an anti-stigma campaign by the PAHO, through its Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Countries, this Public Service Announcement (PSA) sung by Chrystal Cummins-Beckles from Barbados, was produced.
