Season 2 of Stress Management series “Doing What Matters in Times of Stress” commenced by PAHO and partner agencies

Bridgetown, Barbados, June 15, 2022 (PAHO/WHO) - The PAHO/WHO Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Countries commenced the second season of the webinar series “Doing What Matters in Times of Stress” on Thursday June 9, 2021.  

The series is hosted by in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Grenada, the European Union and the Caribbean Alliance of National Psychology Association (CANPA).  The webinar is designed to not only increase the resilience amongst the most vulnerable in our population, but also to address self-care in those who take care of the most vulnerable.  The key populations are health care workers, teachers, counsellors, social workers, pastors, ministers and the youth.

Dr. Karen Polson, the Acting PAHO/WHO Representative for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean provided opening remarks.  “Commencing today we are implementing a strategy that has been shown to work. Doing what matters in times of stress is an evidence-based illustrated Guide for coping with adversity.  It has undergone extensive field testing and is available for anyone who experiences stress. It has also been adapted for the Caribbean setting and can be found easily online.  The webinars equip individuals with practical skills to help cope with stress.  Participants will be taught self-care techniques," she said.

Dr. Polson also expressed thanks to the key stakeholders participating in the event.  The Ministry of Health, Grenada, for taking the leading role in hosting the webinars; the European Union who is a key partner in funding the webinars; and CANPA for providing the two excellent resource psychologists to facilitate the sessions.
