On Wednesday, 14 August, 2019, the Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the European Union (EU) handed over IT equipment to the Minister of Health, the Honorable Pablo Marin, and IT Director, Mr. Ian Smith, at the Ministry of Health (MoH) in the city of Belmopan.
This equipment was procured through the Health Sector Support Programme Belize being funded under the EU-PAHO/WHO PAGoDA Agreement. It will be used for activities related to the implementation of the two components of the above project, namely, the SMART Health Facilities and Health Systems Strengthening Projects. Both projects are expected to benefit the country by enhancing disaster and climate-resiliency of major public health facilities in the country, as well as, improving the organization of health services and model of care in the country, including addressing non-communicable diseases.
The Minister of Health expressed gratitude to the EU and PAHO for facilitating the donation of the equipment, which he said, "will greatly assist the MOH in carrying out its responsibilities in the implementation of the projects, in close collaboration with relevant partners and stakeholders".
