Date: 28 May 9.15 am EST
At the 60th Meeting of the Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) in September 2023, the document "State of Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Services" was presented and unanimously approved.
The document reports on the state of sexual and reproductive health in the region, the current health policy responses and barriers to access, and suggests measures to improve the situation based on scientific evidence and successful experiences in the region. In addition, the document reports on the progress made in this area in recent years.
Despite the commitments and efforts made by countries in recent years, regulatory changes and advances in some sexual and reproductive health indicators, the general situation continues to show levels of inequality in access, deficits in the quality of care and problems in the implementation of public policies that deserve attention.
This high-level meeting is proposed for the purpose of building a regional work agenda and identifying areas of cooperation among countries.
