One of the greatest challenges in stopping the chain of transmission of the SARS-CoV2 virus, which causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19), is to provide effective, accurate and timely communication to different audiences in order to raise awareness and ensure that they adequately follow preventive public health measures.
This new regional guide aims to strengthen the work of health sector communicators in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which goes beyond disseminating information. To this end, it offers recommendations and tools to inform and sensitize audiences on the importance of contact tracing and to involve communities in this process.
During the two sessions of the webinar, the main components of the regional guide will be presented, as well as guidelines for involving communities in contact tracing, derived from a joint document published by the Risk Communication and Community Participation Collaborative Service. Experiences from Colombia and Bolivia on risk communication strategies for contact tracing that were implemented in 2021 in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic will also be presented.
