Join us for the launch of the publication “Front-of-Package Labeling as a Policy Tool for the Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases in the Americas” on Monday, 7 December 2020, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm (EST).
One of the key policy tools to regulate products that contain excessive amount of sugars, total fats, saturated fats, trans fats, and sodium is the use of front-of-package labeling (FOPL) to indicate to consumers which products contain excessive amounts of such critical nutrients. Placing the warnings in all food and drink products that can unbalance diets is essential, so the application of warnings using PAHO’s nutrient profile model is paramount to allow changes in purchase decisions be meaningful and impactful enough to bring population’s diets to meet WHO recommended nutrient intake goals.
This publication summarizes the evidence on the performance of FOPL systems in meeting this purpose and provides a list of frequently asked questions about the nutrition warning system as well as the nutrient profile model of PAHO. This launch is a space for discussion and renewal our commitment to improve public health in the Region.
The session will be available in English and Spanish, with simultaneous translation.
