In the Americas, Aedes aegypti is the vector of major urban arboviruses such as dengue. Approximately 500 million people are at risk of contracting such viruses. Dengue has increased in the Region in the last four decades, rising from 1.5 million accumulated cases between 1980 and 1989, to 16.2 million accumulated cases between 2010 and 2019.
