World Diabetes Day

In the Americas, more than 60 million people live with diabetes, which if uncontrolled can lead to heart disease, blindness, kidney disease and amputations. Diabetes is also an underlying condition that increases the risk of severe forms of COVID-19 illness. Each year, World Diabetes Day is commemorated to raise awareness about the disease, the impact on people’s health and wellbeing and the effective strategies that can be used to prevent and control it.
