Objective of the Department:
The Department of Family, Health Promotion and Life Course (FPL) of the Pan American Health Organization promotes, coordinates, and implements technical cooperation at the regional, sub regional and country levels, emphasizing the central role of the family and community to foster a culture of health promotion and protection in which health is a social value and a human right. FPL focuses on the development and implementation of programs for women and men’s health; sexual and reproductive health; maternal and neonatal health; the integrated health and development of children and adolescents; the health of aging populations; food and nutrition; comprehensive family immunization and leads innovative, inter-sectoral and strategic efforts to address the social determinants of health.
The Health Promotion Unit (FPL/HP) covers the areas of Health Promotion, social determinants and health, workers health, urban health, and community participation. It promotes and coordinates technical cooperation and alliances to support the efforts from the Member States to achieve health for all people in the Americas though health promoting strategies and public policies that address social determinants of health at national, subnational and local level.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Unit Chief, Health Promotion and Social Determinants (FPL/HP), the incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to, the following assigned duties:
Coordinate the activities in the area of Workers Health, with particular focus on
- Implementation and monitoring of the Plan of Action on Workers Health, 2015-2025
- Develop and implement proposals for the area of employment conditions and health
- Develop a line of action on informal economy and social protection under the guidance of the SDH advisor
- Coordinate the work on Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Origen in coordination with CAM
- Coordinate workers health campaigns in PAHO
- Mobilize and coordinate WH interns
- Other actions as necessary
Requirements (Qualifications)
Essential education: Medical Degree or other in degree in other health related field, with master in public health or public policies or its equivalent
Experience requirements: Knowledge of workers health, employment policies and social security
- Essential: minimum experience of 7 years working in workers’ health
- Desired: International experience in workers’ health
Languages: Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of French Portuguese would be an asset.
Expected contract duration
12 months, with possibility of extension based on performance and funds availability. (Starting 17/01/2022)
