Objective of the Department:
The Department of Family, Health Promotion and Life Course (FPL) of the Pan American Health Organization promotes, coordinates, and implements technical cooperation at the regional, sub regional and country levels, emphasizing the central role of the family and community to foster a culture of health promotion and protection in which health is a social value and a human right. FPL focuses on the development and implementation of programs for women and men’s health; sexual and reproductive health; maternal and neonatal health; the integrated health and development of children and adolescents; the health of aging populations; food and nutrition; comprehensive family immunization and leads innovative, inter-sectoral and strategic efforts to address the social determinants of health.
The mission of the Comprehensive Family Immunization Unit (FPL/IM) is to promote and coordinate technical cooperation and alliances to support, as part of the guarantee of healthcare as a right to all, the efforts from the Member States to achieve the sustainable and equitable reduction of morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD) through control and elimination strategies to improve the quality and life expectancy of towns in the Americas.
Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Unit Chief, Comprehensive Family Immunization (FPL/IM) and the direct supervision of the Advisor Martha Velandia, the incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to, the following assigned duties:
- Request, compile, edit, translate, and publishing the Immunization Newsletter in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French;
- Manage publications from unit.
- Request, compile, edit, translate, and submit monthly contributions from Member States to WHO’s Global Immunization Newsletter.
- Manage translation requests from unit and serve as focal point between TTS and unit.
- Maintain list of journal articles published by unit and list of units printed publications.
- Oversee distribution of technical documents to partners and Member States.
- Support in optimization, user-friendliness and streamlining of unit website.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Education requirements (Qualifications)
- Essential: Bachelor's degree in English, media, journalism or related field and fluency in English and Spanish.
- Experience requirements
- Essential: Writer/editor fluent in Spanish and English with minimum experience of 5 years working with immunization and public health terminology.
- Languages
- Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of French Portuguese would be an asset.
Expected contract duration
6 Months, with possibility of extension based on performance and funds availability. (Starting 11/21/2021)
