NCDs Progress Monitor
In the first UN High-Level Meeting in 2011 and the second in 2014, governments made political commitments to address the four main Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) - cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases-, and their risk factors (RF): tobacco and alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, and unhealthy diet. Since then, technical notes, frameworks, and best-buys have been developed to support countries in addressing NCDs and their RF towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
To track the progress made by the Member States in the achievement of prevention and control of the NCDs, in 2014, the WHO developed a set of 10 progress indicators presented at the 2015 UN Sustainable Development Summit, and the third UN High-Level Meeting in 2018. They will also be presented at the fourth UN High-Level Meeting in 2025. These indicators are periodically evaluated and published every two years starting in 2015. Since its second publication in 2017, the Pan American Health Organization has developed a Scorecard for the Americas to provide a snapshot of key NCD indicators across all countries in the region and provide information for decision-makers.
The scorecards can be consulted through the interactive tool that shows three different visualizations: scorecards, graphics, and maps. Additionally, the scorecards are available in digital and printable versions. Country profiles and the technical notes with the validation criteria of the progress indicators are also available.
