Epidemiological Situation
On the following dashboard, you will find detailed information on transmission levels, morbidity, and mortality associated with influenza, as well as the severity of the disease in reported cases in the Americas region through the FluNet and FluID platforms for sentinel surveillance of respiratory viruses.
Explore this dashboard to view:
- Positivity percentages and the number of weekly positive samples for influenza by type, subtype, and lineage per epidemiological week (EW).
- Distribution of positive samples by type, subtype, and lineage of influenza during the last four EWs.
- Weekly increase in positivity percentage by subregions and countries (referring to the latest epidemiological week). Trends in positivity percentages by country for the current year.
- Number of new cases per EW of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI), SARI with admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and SARI fatalities positive for influenza.
- Number of new cases of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) positive for influenza per epidemiological week (EW), categorized by age groups.
- Percentage of SARI cases positive for influenza requiring admission to ICU.
- Percentage of SARI cases positive for influenza that resulted in fatalities (for the current year and from 2016 to the current year).
Disclaimers:
Positivity percentages are calculated using the moving average of the reference epidemiological week and the two previous epidemiological weeks.
Age groups for ILI and SARI cases of influenza have been classified into categories: children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, due to heterogeneity in age groups among different countries.
Disease severity is calculated exclusively for countries reporting data for both the numerator (number of SARI cases positive for influenza with ICU admission or fatalities) and the denominator (number of SARI cases positive for influenza).
