Health—as a key input to sustainable development and human well-being—is fundamental to the spirit and pursuit of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. SDG 3 specifically prioritizes health—"Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages"—but all 17 SDGs address issues that have important impacts on health. This makes the 2030 Agenda a powerful platform to scale up multisectoral efforts that address persisting health gaps linked to the social, economic, and environmental determinants of health. To guide such efforts, the Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) has identified targets and indicators in all 17 SDGs that should be prioritized in policymaking and resource allocation for the best return on health. The SDG 2, 6, 7, 11, 17 and other targets related to child stunting and obesity, drinking water and sanitation, clean energy for all, and ambient air pollution, knowledge sharing and networking while traditionally under the coordination of other sectors, create opportunities for cross-sector programing and activities to improve health.
