Washington, D.C., 7 January 2013 (PAHO/WHO) - The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), in collaboration with Chile's Catholic University of the North (UCN) and the Ibero-American Network of Health Promoting Universities (RIUPS), invites universities and other institutions of higher learning to participate in the First Ibero-American Contest on Good Health Promotion Practices in Universities and Higher Education Institutions.
The competition seeks to recognize and disseminate good practices in health promotion in university settings in the Americas, Spain and Portugal. Registration is open until Jan. 31 (forms are available at https://bit.ly/V4qzCT).Participating universities and other higher education institutions must demonstrate at least six months of experience implementing health promotion programs. For purposes of the contest, a "good practice" is defined as "an experience that is systematically planned and yields positive results in the field of health promotion in higher education communities."
Winners will first be chosen at the national level and then be judged by an international jury for international awards in the following categories: lifestyle interventions (targeting diet, alcohol, physical activity, injury prevention, tobacco use, sexual health, addiction, etc.), healthy environments on university campuses, promoting health through community outreach, and national health promoting universities networks.
Both national and international winners will receive an official diploma. All winning experiences will be documented and disseminated through PAHO's website and social media channels. The four international winners will be recognized with a commemorative plaque signed by the Director of the Pan American Health Organization, Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO).
