Belize Strengthens Commitment to Malaria-Free Future with Intensive Training for Laboratory Personnel
Belize City, November 5, 2024 (PAHO) – In observance of Malaria Day in the Americas on November 6, Belize reaffirms its dedication to a malaria-free future through rigorous training and capacity-building initiatives. This day underscores the region’s collective commitment to eliminating malaria, highlighting the ongoing work and collaboration needed to safeguarding communities from this preventable disease.
As part of its sustained elimination efforts, Belize is hosting an intensive certification course for malaria microscopists from November 4 to November 13. The course, hosted by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, is specifically designed to strengthen the competencies of the National and Intermediate Reference Laboratories.
This training initiative is critical for maintaining Belize’s malaria -free status. By equipping laboratory personnel with advanced skills in malaria microscopy, Belize ensures that diagnostic capabilities are precise and efficient, a fundamental component in preventing malaria reintroduction.
