The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, is in Chile this week (31 July — 2 August) for her first official visit to the country. She is scheduled to meet with high-level authorities and to participate in the 62nd General Assembly of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA).
Washington, DC, 31 July 2013 (PAHO/WHO) — The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, is in Chile this week (31 July — 2 August) for her first official visit to the country. She is scheduled to meet with high-level authorities and to participate in the 62nd General Assembly of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA).
Among those Etienne plans to meet with are Chilean First Lady Cecilia Morel, Minister of Foreign Relations Alfredo Moreno Charme, Minister of Health Jaime Mañalich, Regional Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Raúl Benitez, and Executive Secretary of the U.N. Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Alicia Bárcena. Etienne is also scheduled to meet with United Nations Resident Coordinator Antonio Molpeceres and representatives of other U.N. agencies working in Chile.
On 1 August, PAHO's Director will participate in the opening ceremony of the 62nd General Assembly of IFMSA, which is being supported by PAHO, Chile's Ministry of Health, and the Casa de Bello School of Medicine. The meeting will bring together more than 600 delegates from 107 countries to share experiences and perspectives on youth leadership in health. The theme of the meeting is "eHealth: technology-based medicine."
During her visit, Etienne is also expected to sign a cooperation agreement with the Chilean Association of Municipalities.
