In her Quinquennial Report 2008-2012, PAHO Director Dr. Mirta Roses shows how Pan Americanism has served as a powerful force for health progress in PAHO member countries. Among the Region's many public health achievements are a gain of four years in life expectancy between 2000 and 2010, an 11% decline in mortality, progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) related to health, significant expansion of social protection in health, and the development of a regional Health Agenda for the Americas (2008-2017).
