Washington, D.C., 29 April 2013 (PAHO/WHO) — Some 770 people fall ill with an occupational disease daily in the Americas, according to estimates of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) published on the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which is celebrated each year on April 28.
PAHO/WHO is commemorating the World Day for Safety and Health at Work to raise awareness of the seriousness of occupational diseases, a silent epidemic that produces more than 281,000 new cases each year in the region, according to estimates based on data from nine countries.
