Rio de Janeiro, October 29, 2024, (PANAFTOSA/SPV-PAHO/WHO) - PAHO organized a field visit today to its Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Veterinary Public Health Center (PANAFTOSA) in Rio de Janeiro, with representatives from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Health Organization (WHO). The visit aimed to exchange information on technical cooperation under the One Health approach, a collaborative framework between the public health, animal health, and environmental sectors.
Through shared ideas on managing technical cooperation in zoonoses, animal diseases, and food safety, the international organizations reinforced the need for countries to coordinate efforts to address these challenges with a sustainable approach.
The discussions during the visit covered topics ranging from governance strategies for technical cooperation to field-level activities, aiming to strengthen partnerships to achieve better outcomes for global health.
The visit was organized within the context of the G20 High-Level Seminar on One Health, co-hosted by Brazil and the Quadripartite (WHO, WOAH, FAO, UNEP), taking place on October 30, 2024, ahead of the G20 Health Ministers' meeting in Rio de Janeiro, organized by the Government of Brazil, which will be held on October 31.
