Port-au-Prince, August 28, 2017 (PAHO/WHO) – The Director of the Pan American Health Organization [PAHO], Dr. Carissa Etienne, is making an official visit to Haiti this week to meet with Minister of Health of Haiti, Dr. Greta Roy Clément, and other national officials to follow-up on the progress of our technical cooperation as well as on previous commitments and recommendations, which had been made.
Discussions will also be centered on PAHO’s support for strengthening the governance and leadership functions of the Ministry of Health as well as on building a strong and resilient health system to achieve universal health in Haiti.
During her three-day visit to Haiti, Dr. Etienne is scheduled to meet with Members of Parliament, including Honorable Senator Carl Murat Cantave, President of the Health Commission in the Senate and Honorable Deputy Bertrand Sinal, President of the Health Commission in the Parliament to discuss PAHO’s support for legislation on health. She will also meet other UN agency officials and partners working in Haiti.
The Director will work with the PAHO Country Office Team to assess progress and challenges in our technical cooperation and to jointly determine the best way forward for implementing the agreed priorities and for strengthening PAHO’s presence in Haiti.
The PAHO Director last visited Haiti in May 2017. She will be accompanied by PAHO’s Deputy Director, Dr. Isabella Danel, and the Chief of Staff, Dr. Merle Lewis.
