Washington, DC, July 17, 2024- As part of the technical cooperation agreement signed between the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the International Hospital Federation (IHF), a virtual masterclass was held focusing on the Organization's mandates, resources, and tools, which are strategic for strengthening hospitals in the development of health systems based on Primary Health Care (PHC).
Ernesto Báscolo, Chief of the Primary Health Care and Integrated Service Delivery Unit at PAHO, along with the technical unit team and more than 40 young leaders from various countries in the Region, participated in this meeting. They addressed reference frameworks on health systems and services, the integrated care policy, the role and challenges of hospitals in contributing to resilient health systems and recovering lost achievements. The proposal for the Strategy for Integrating Surgical, Intensive, and Emergency Care 2025-2030 was also presented.
The collaboration between both entities focuses on key objectives such as supporting the development of hospital management skills, strengthening the management of hospital processes, and advancing the transformation towards sustainable and resilient health care. In this context, the meeting fostered conversations between participants and the PAHO technical team on the organization's technical cooperation tools and the challenges faced by hospitals in terms of innovation in payment and financing mechanisms, capacity building, and the integration of hospitals into integrated health service networks.
The agreement between IHF and PAHO, signed in January of this year, has as its next milestone the participation of PAHO representatives in the World Hospital Congress, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from September 10 to 12, 2024.
