October 30, 2024 (PAHO) — Over 54 participants from 28 countries and territories in the Region participated in the second consultation with Member States, a critical moment in the journey to develop the proposed PAHO Strategic Plan 2026-2031, as there were several areas where feedback was required to advance to the next steps in the process.

Delegates welcomed the opportunity to participate in the consultation process and were pleased to see that many of their previous contributions had been incorporated into the second consultation document. Some indicated that the direction of the Strategic Plan strongly corresponds to and aligns with their national health plans.

Several countries and territories expressed appreciation for the advancement the Secretariat has made in the development of the situation analysis and results framework of the Strategic Plan document. They also made interventions, asking for clarification or providing recommendations for consideration in future drafts of the Plan. Delegates reiterated their appreciation for the integrated approach with the strategic objectives and outcomes, noting their alignment with country priorities and usefulness for their own national health plans and strategies.

The development process will culminate with the presentation of the final draft of the Proposed Plan at the 62nd PAHO Directing Council in September 2025, as outlined in the roadmap presented to the 61st PAHO Directing Council in September 2024 (CD61/INF/1).
