Transportation of syringes is key to ensuring the continuous delivery of immunization services.

In 2024, more than 7 million syringes were received in 11 countries, thanks to the PAHO and the Canada Project, Improving Equitable Access and Coverage of COVID-19 Vaccination in Latin America and the Caribbean. The delivery of these syringes was key for countries to continue their immunization activities, which were mainly focused on COVID-19, and to avoid disruptions in routine immunization activities.

PAHO and Canada have been able to cover the cost of transportation mainly thanks to this project since accessibility for insular small countries represents a challenge in the distribution of vaccine-related supplies.

Vaccine acceptance and other factors resulting from the pandemic make uninterrupted vaccination delivery a priority, which is why this project has been key to avoiding syringe stock-outs.
