PAHO and Canada Review Progress in Collaboration to Strengthen Innovation and Vaccine Production Capacities in Latin America and the Caribbean

Washington, February 19, 2025 (PAHO) - the Pan American Health Orgazation (PAHO) team held a new inter-programmatic meeting with representatives from Canada to review the progress of the project Strengthening Local Manufacturing Capacities to Improve Equitable Access to Vaccines in Latin America and the Caribbean, which is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD). 

During this session, progress in the project’s implementation was presented, highlighting the activities carried out and the achievements reached to date, with a focus on coordination and execution of actions PAHO's inter-programmatic activities with the leadership of Special Program, Innovation and Regional Production Platform (RP) of the Innovation, Access to Medicines and Health Technologies (ITM) Department.

The main objective of the project is to provide support and technical cooperation to strengthen regional vaccine production capacities, contributing to improved access to vaccines in the region. The project's action lines include the development and production of mRNA vaccines and other technological platforms, strengthening regional value chains, improving regulatory systems, supporting the development of multisectoral policies, generating strategic information, and promoting multisectoral coordination in the region.
