The 2016 Vaccination Week in the Americas was officially launched today in Kingston, Jamaica, with a special ceremony featuring remarks by Minister of Health Christopher Tufton and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Director Carissa F. Etienne and with performances by the Jamaica Constabulary Force Band and Choir.
Kingston, Jamaica 23 April 2016 (PAHO/WHO) — The 2016 Vaccination Week in the Americas was officially launched today in Kingston, Jamaica, with a special ceremony featuring remarks by Minister of Health Christopher Tufton and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Director Carissa F. Etienne and with performances by the Jamaica Constabulary Force Band and Choir.
Highlights of the launch also included performances by the Tivoli dance troupe and by students from Rousseau Primary School 14 explaining the benefits of vaccination. In addition, the top three winners of a national poster contest based on the theme "Go for the gold! Get vaccinated!" were honored with gold, silver and bronze trophies by, respectively, PAHO Director Etienne, Minister of Health Tufton and Nadene Newsome, communications manager for Sgicor corporation, which provided the trophies.
Other participants in the events included PAHO Representative in Jamaica Noreen Jack, Dr. Kevin Harvey Permanent Secretary of Health, and acting Chief Medical Officer Winston De La Haye.
