Vaccination Week is an extraordinary effort led by the countries and territories of the Region to advance equity and access to vaccination.  Vaccination Week in the Americas activities strengthen the national immunization programs in the Americas by reaching out to populations with little access to regular health services, such as those population living in urban fringes, rural and border areas and in indigenous communities.  Since it began 11 years ago, Vaccination Week has reached more than 410 million people of all ages in this continent. ?

The initiative also provides a platform to raise population awareness regarding the importance of immunization and to keep the topic on the forefront of political agendas. To learn more about VWA and the celebrations planned for 2013, please follow the links on this page, which will be updated regularly. Other regions of the World Health Organization (WHO) have also established their own successful Vaccination/Immunization Week initiatives and 2013 will mark the second celebration of World Immunization Week (WIW) which will serve as an over-arching framework to unite all global efforts.? ?For more information/details, please contact: Paula Vasquez by phone :  22-44885 or Sonia Mey-Schmidt by email :  maysonia@paho.org — PAHO/WHO Belize Country Office — www.paho.org/blz
