Washington, DC, June 21 2013 (PAHO/WHO) — The Executive Committee of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) finished its 152th session at the headquarters of the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO), with the approval of several resolutions that will be discussed in September by all health ministers from the Americas during the Directing Council.
The Executive Committee discussed a plan of action tor prevent an control non-communicable diseases, as well as evidence-based Policy-making for National Immunization Programs, health in the development agenda post 2015 and universal health coverage. Delegates also debated about PAHO's budget and administrative topics such as the strategic plan until 2018 and the World Health Organization Reform, among other topics.
The Executive Committee is composed of nine Member States of the Organization, elected by the Conference or the Council for overlapping periods of three years. The Committee, which meets twice a year, acts as a working party of the Conference or Council. Special meetings are convoked by the Director of the Bureau either on his/her own initiative or upon request of at least three Member States. The Committee has an auxiliary advisory body, the Subcommittee on Program, Budget, and Administration.
