Since its launch in November 2019, almost 10,000 professionals from 74 countries around the world have enrolled in the maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response (MPDSR) course. Now, for easy access, PAHO also offers the possibility of attending the course offline, downloading the materials without having to see them with a permanent Internet connection.
With a computer version, which allows interaction, even when not online, and another for cell phones, which enables a pdf format, the course is available in English and Spanish. It is free at the Public Health Virtual Campus in self-learning mode. Those interested can manage their time and dedication, which is estimated at three hours. If materials are downloaded to pass the course and obtain the diploma, afterwards, you will only have to log in again and take a test on the knowledge acquired.
So far, Mexico has been the country with most enrolments (3,597), followed by Ecuador (2,644) and Colombia (933), but there have also been enrolments from all over the Americas and from countries in other regions, ranging from Spain to the United Kingdom, as well as Bhutan, Algeria, Zimbabwe and Cambodia, among others.
The objective of the course is to provide the basic concepts of maternal and perinatal mortality, the data and indicators that are applied. It also points out the importance of data quality for monitoring and decision-making. It is aimed at general practitioners, nurses, midwives and obstetricians, gynecologists, pediatricians, neonatologists and professionals involved in the management and administration of institutions related to maternal and perinatal health.
