Washington, D.C., 18 May 2015 (PAHO) - The secretary general of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), Juan Lozano, and Francisco Becerra, assistant director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), met today (18 May) to discuss ways the two organizations can collaborate to help advance universal access to health and universal health coverage in the Americas.
CISS is the association of social security entities in the Americas. During the meeting, Lozano said he would encourage CISS's member agencies to support efforts in their countries to advance toward universal access to health and universal health coverage, especially by sharing best practices.
In addition, Lozano said he would participate--and would encourage CISS's members to participate--in several upcoming events on universal health access and coverage that are being organized by PAHO. These include a colloquium in July on models of health care as well as future events on defining health services, quality of health care and integration of health systems.
On behalf of PAHO, Becerra agreed to present and discuss the regional Strategy for Universal Access to Health and Universal Health Coverage at CISS's General Assembly in Brazil in November 2015.
Today's meeting was a follow-up to the signing in April of a memorandum of understanding between PAHO and CISS to jointly promote universal health access and coverage.
