Brasilia, Nov. 9, 2023 (PAHO) – Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) in collaboration with the Butantan Institute and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) have developed a course on Vaccine Development and Production for Mercosur States Parties and Associates.
The course was held at the request of the Mercosur Parties and Associated States during the Brazilian Pro Tempore Presidency. The course took place from September 5 to November 9, 2023, in hybrid mode with 90 hours, including virtual lessons and a week of visits to vaccine production plants, including the Butantan Institute, Bio-Manguinhos, Farmanguinhos and Nortec Quimica, in the cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
The countries, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay, nominated participants from different sectors, including regulatory agencies, public production companies and Ministries of Health.
The topics developed during the course included Immunological Vaccinology, Research, Development, Production, Quality Control, Clinical Studies and Regulatory Affairs and Vaccine Registration; different specialists from the organizing institutions presented the learning modules and facilitated the discussion of the main challenges for the Region.
The course participants had the opportunity to learn more about the development and industrial production of vaccines, production technologies and platforms for the development and production of vaccines. They also learned about vaccine production at industrial scale and mechanisms for development, legislation, and quality control.
