15 September 2014 - Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Dr. Carissa F. Etienne arrived in St. Lucia on Sunday 14th September for a two day official visit. Dr. Etienne revealed that St. Lucia is the first OECS island she has visited since her appointment as PAHO Director.
Minister for Health, Wellness Human Services and Gender Relations, Hon. Alvina Reynolds was among the welcoming party at the airport to receive the PAHO Director. Minister Reynolds express her elation that Dr. Etienne is Dominican yet selected St. Lucia as the first OECS to visit since her appointment.
During her two day visit the PAHO Director will, among other things, meet with senior officials of the Ministry of Health also with UNDP National Coordinator, Mr. Giles Romulus. She is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on the Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy and External Affairs Minister, Hon. Alva Baptiste.
Dr. Etienne will also tour the New National Hospital, St. Jude and Soufriere Hospital and the Canaries Wellness Centre which was affected during the Christmas Eve Trough.
