Mexico City, 15 April 2013 (PAHO/WHO) - During her first official visit to Mexico, the director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Carissa F. Etienne, will speak about the importance of "health in all policies" in a seminar at Mexico's Secretariat of Health in Mexico City.
During her two-day visit, she will also visit Mexico state to learn about its primary health care-based model of care for women and children under 2 and will participate in the launch of a book on this subject.
Etienne also plans to meet with Secretary of Health Mercedes Juan López; United Nations coordinator and Mexico representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Marcia de Castro; and representatives of the Mexican Foundation for Health (Funsalud), the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs, and PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centers in Mexico.
In addition, Etienne plans to participate in a working meeting with representatives of sectors including health, education, environment and social development, to analyze mechanisms for addressing health in all sectors, as part of the social agenda.
