We regretfully share the notice of demise of Jorge Veiga del Cabo, who was director of the Biblioteca Nacional de Ciencias de la Salud – Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), between 1998 and 2005, a period in which, in cooperation with BIREME, he made progress history in scientific health information and communication in Spain, with the creation of the Spain Virtual Library (VHL) and the SciELO Spain collection. It is worth mentioning that he participated in the I Regional Coordination Meeting of the VHL, which took place in Washington, D.C., in 1999.
Jorge Veiga del Cabo was at BIREME for the last time in September 2012, when he advised the Center on regional technical cooperation issues, including the dissemination of data from systematic reviews of the Cochrane Library translated by the Cochrane Collaboration.
Graduated in Medicine at the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain, graduated in Health and with a Master‘s degree in Clinical Research at the Escuela Nacional de Sanidad de Madrid (Spain), Jorge Veiga del Cabo was director of Biblioteca Nacional de Ciencias de la Salud in Spain, where he developed the Science and Health Spanish Bibliographic Index and the Collective Catalog of Periodical Publications of Health Science Libraries of Spain.
