The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Mirta Roses, sent a congratulatory message to Chile's Health Minister, Dr. Jaime Mañalich, on "the magnificent culmination of the successful operation to rescue the miners trapped inside San José mine."
According to Dr. Roses, "This operation demonstrates the excellent level of preparation and coordination of the various institutions involved in such work, and particularly the Ministry of Health, which has played a major role in the organization of system of support and maintenance of the health of the miners and their post-rescue care."
The Director of the Pan American Health Organization ended by noting that "the work of the team you lead will be of unmeasurable value as an example to share with the rescue and support teams in critical situations in other countries of the region."
