GEORGETOWN, GUYANA- 13 March 2021- The Ministry of Health and PAHO Guyana representatives conducted a tour of the Leonora Cottage Hospital to assess retrofitting works done under the Smart Hospitals Project which commenced in November of 2020. The Smart Hospital initiative builds on the Safe Hospital Initiative and focuses on improving hospitals resilience, strengthening structural and operational aspects and providing green technologies to ensure the facility remains functional during emergencies and disasters.
The Ministry of Health was pleased with the current upgrades at the facility and will determine a date for the official hand over. This hospital will provide services to the population from at least three regions, namely regions 2, 3, and 7.
The project is funded by the Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by PAHO/WHO in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
