The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, plans to visit Belize on February 13-15 to meet with high-level government officials and sign a new strategy for technical cooperation in health.
Washington, DC, 11 February 2017 (PAHO/WHO) -The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, plans to visit Belize on February 13-15 to meet with high-level government officials and sign a new strategy for technical cooperation in health .
Her visit will include courtesy calls to Prime Minister Dean Barrow, Minister of Health Pablo Marin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington and Special Envoy for Families and Children Kim Simplis Barrow.
Highlights of the visit will include the signing of a new country cooperation strategy (CCS) for 2017-2021 and discussions with Marin and other ministry of health officials on subjects including health financing and a multisectoral approach to advancing the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Etienne is also scheduled to visit Belize's National Vaccine Storage Facility.
The CCS reflects a medium-term vision to guide PAHO/WHO's work in support of Belize's national health policies and strategic plans towards the achievement of the SDGs. The CCS seeks to respond to the specific priorities and needs of the country while at the same time contributing to the health and health-related SDGs, encouraging greater collaboration among different sectors in the country.
Dr. Etienne will be accompanied by PAHO Chief of Staff Merle Lewis and PAHO/WHO Representative in Belize Luis Roberto Escoto.
