The PAHO/WHO Guyana Country Office is pleased to announce that the PAHO Director, Dr. Carissa Etienne, will make an official visit to Guyana from the 10 — 14 September 2014 after accepting an invitation extended by the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran.
The PAHO/WHO Guyana Country Office is pleased to announce that the PAHO Director, Dr. Carissa Etienne, will make an official visit to Guyana from the 10 — 14 September 2014 after accepting an invitation extended by the Honourable Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran.
Dr. Etienne, a national of Dominica, was elected as Director, by PAHO Member States during the 28th Pan American Sanitary Conference. She began her five-year term on 1 February 2013, succeeding Dr. Mirta Roses Periago of Argentina, who has been the Director of PAHO since 2003.
Dr. Carissa Etienne's visit coincides with national activities planned in commemoration of Caribbean Wellness Day which is observed on 13 September and Wellness Week in the Americas, observed during the period 13-19 September annually. During the period of the Director's visit, the Ministry of Health will launch the National Presidential Commission on Non-Communicable Diseases (NPC NCDs) and the Wellness Warriors Club on 12 September 2014, at the National Convention Centre, Lilliendaal. Dr. Etienne will also meet with the President, Government officials and UN Officials during her visit to Guyana.
