Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and as countries prepare for a ‘new normal,’ the PAHO/WHO Belize office continues their work with the Health Sector Support Programme Belize project, funded by the European Union, in partnership with the Ministry of Health.
As part of the smart hospital component of the project, PAHO/WHO Belize procurement team visited the Northern Regional Hospital on May 29 and the Western Regional Hospital on June 1, to meet with Regional Health Managers, Hospital Administrators, Hospital Maintenance Focal Points, and three design firm contractors who were interested in designing the “smart” (safe & green) retrofits. These are two of the six health facilities that will be retrofitted by the project to become disaster-resilient, environmentally friendly smart hospitals.
To keep the project’s progress and the timeline, the goal of the site visits was to accompany potential bidders at the health facilities so they can better understand the scope of work needed for each facility. The interested contractors were also introduced to the PAHO/WHO procurement process, including the proper way to bid and upload complete documents.
PAHO/WHO expects to receive the bids from the interested contractors by July 1st and a decision will be made on which contractor will be selected to design the retrofitting works in the selected health facilities. The smart hospital component is only one part of the project’s overall goal of “Better Health for Belize.”
