
PAHO Participates in UNICEF–UNFPA–WHO Joint Meeting with Health Technology Manufacturers and Suppliers
Copenhagen, December 6, 2024 (PAHO) - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), through its department of Innovation, Access to Medicines, and Health Technologies (IMT), participated in the annual joint meeting of UNICEF, UNFPA, and WHO with manufacturers and suppliers of health technologies. This year’s theme was Ensuring Health Equity: partnerships for Accessible Quality Products.
The meeting focused on strengthening strategic partnerships to promote access to quality products by implementing best practices to develop sustainable and resilient supply chains, leveraging local innovation and production capacities. Participants shared their experiences and provided feedback on progress in regulation, prequalification, and procurement processes, aiming to address the challenges faced by manufacturers in the supply chain of quality-assured health technologies.
In addition, global initiatives promoting local and regional production of health technologies and strengthening supply chains were discussed, highlighting the innovative approaches of suppliers to overcome barriers and the success stories achieved. The event emphasized the importance of multisectoral partnerships in ensuring access to high-quality diagnostic products in Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly during periods of high demand or supply chain disruptions.
