The Pan American Health Organization and World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Country Office of The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands participated in the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ 2nd Annual Disaster and Health Expo.

Held on the Ministry’s grounds, the public was invited to learn lifesaving skills and tips that can save lives. Representatives from the public and private sector provided attendees with resources and the know-how to protect individuals and their families in the event a disaster strikes.

From multivitamins to battery operated charging packs, participants collected useful products that can be used in and out of hurricane season.  More than sixty agencies were represented.

At the PAHO/WHO booth, staff members provided flyers on protecting one’s health after a disaster and positive mental health coping measures. Attendees were also quizzed on health tips before and after a disaster. Persons that successfully answered all of the questions correctly received a PAHO/WHO first aid kit.

The Disaster and Health expo was timely as it was hosted days prior to the beginning of the 2024 hurricane season.

The PAHO/WHO team looks forward to participating next year as we promote the importance of health, and safety, for everyone, everywhere.
