Kingston, Jamaica, August 30, 2023 (PAHO/WHO) - The International Partners / Government of Jamaica Health Sector Coordination Group (PGHSCG) convened its inaugural meeting at the PAHO Jamaica country office on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. The group comprises numerous United Nations agencies, as well as other multilateral and bilateral partners currently based in Jamaica, all of whom have an active health agenda. The group's primary purpose is to provide technical and programmatic support to the Government of Jamaica to strengthen the health system and improve Jamaican health outcomes.
Central to the meeting's agenda was the collaborative revision of the group's terms of reference, which addressed, amongst others, a shared vision, opportunities for collaboration, and membership. Following the meeting there was a consensus that more collaborative, multi-sectoral action is possible to better align international organizations’ active health agendas with the priorities of the Ministry of Health and Wellness. This alignment aims to leverage collective action. In addition, the partners agreed to share information garnered from future discussions to improve synergy among partners.
