On 3 May 2024, the Government of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, published updated information on the heavy rains affecting 235 municipalities of the state (88 increase since the 2 May report). According to the information, 351,639 people were affected (283,779 increase), 74 people were reported as injured (62 increase), and 37 deaths were reported (24 increase). Additionally, 31,547 people were displaced, of which, 7,949 are in shelters (3,350 increase). The State Government suspended classes and reported 507 schools have been affected. The Brazilian Communication Agency (EBC per its acronym in Portuguese) has reported that the Ministry of Health has deployed 60 healthcare professionals to provide assistance to affected people.
